Olympic Committee wins gold for foot shooting
Free publicity for protest video
Posted in Government, 14th August 2008 14:45 GMT
YouTube has pulled a video of a Free Tibet protest after receiving a takedown notice from the International Olympics Committee.
The video, of a protest action at the Chinese Consulate in New York, was removed from YouTube and promptly reappeared on Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/1494443), BlipTV (http://blip.tv/file/1158883)and dozens of other video sites. At the time of writing it is even back on YouTube (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=j60x3C43Qao) (warning: Link contains drum and bass, and unpleasant images).
The New York protest has been superceded by rather braver protesters facing actual Chinese police in Beijing.
A search for 'china tibet protest' on YouTube footage uploaded today returns 32 videos (http://uk.youtube.com/results?uploaded=d&search_query=china+tibet+protest) - most focused on ITN reporter John Ray bravely reporting via a minibus window after his apparent arrest. ®
