The veteran head of MySQL's Japan business has quit less than six months after the completion of Sun Microsystems' acquisition of the database company.
Larry Stefonic, the president of MySQL's Japanese unit, is now running his own company after more than five years working in MySQL's Asia-Pacific region.
A Sun spokeswoman told The Reg that MySQL Japan was officially merged with Sun Japan on July 1 and Stefonic left for "private reasons". The company is believed to still be searching for a replacement.
Stefonic had served in various roles during his five-year tenure, including vice president of the company's Asia Pacific business and senior vice president of OEM sales. During that time, Stefonic helped grow MySQL's sales team from scratch.
Attention will now be on the remainder of MySQL leadership team, and how many last at least until the one-year anniversary of Sun's purchase. Loss of MySQL talent from Sun will resurrect concerns among MySQL customers over the long-term development of the database now it's with Sun. ®
