It could be a happy Christmas for Fujitsu Siemens Computers, with its continuing existence confirmed by that date.

FSC is jointly-owned by Fujitsu and Siemens. In a renewed rush to become profitable, Siemens bosses have looked at FSC and thought they could get a better return on their capital elsewhere. They have been talking to Fujitsu about not renewing the JV for another term and discussing what could be done with Siemens' stake in it.

It is understood that pricing this stake is proving difficult. FSC people are on a tight leash concerning the state of these talks or even their existence. Dr Helmut Beck, VP of storage, on being asked about it, said: "I can't comment on that," and his PR colleague quickly suggested we move on.

Having used storage divining rods and gone deep into the storage ether, the message coming through is that it might be reasonable to speculate an announcement could arrive by Christmas. Exactly what the potential new owner will do with the business is unclear. It's already been suggested that the PC and mobile computer side might be sold, given the need for mass in such businesses.

I think I'll go and register the domain www.fujitsucomputers.com and hope to sell it. Oh, damn, the bloody site's already been registered by a squatter. ®
